Description

Traces the historical geography of the built environment in Ireland from the 18th century and provides perspectives on the conservation, regeneration and renewal of built heritage in urban and rural landscapes.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Trace the principle developments and styles in Irish architecture from the seventeenth to the twentieth century

  2. Identify regional styles, including the vernacular and settlement patterns underlying the historic built environment in Ireland from the 18th century

  3. Evaluate the evolution of conservation policy for built heritage and relate this to contemporary international and national frameworks for conservation of the built environment and to case studies .

  4. Outline and discuss the international and national policy context for regeneration and renewal of the historic built environment and relate these policy frameworks to case studies.
