Development of Management and Leadership Skills

The health care environment is complex and dynamic. This module aims to prepare the Year 4 student for smooth transition into the Staff Nurse role and the world of work. The learner will be challenged and inspired to critically evaluate contemporary discourse in management and leadership. Topics will critically appraise current thinking relevant to the management of self and a sustainable health care team, ethical recruitment and retention, leadership theories, current practices in charity and voluntary sector.

1. Critically analyse approaches and interventions to manage self.

2. Critically discuss employment, ethical and sustainable recruitment and retention.

3. Critically analyse key functions in managing a team. 

4. Critically evaluate leadership theories relevant to health care.

5. Critically appraise current practices in the charity and voluntary sectors.
