Energy & Resource Optimisation

Description

This module examines the use of energy and physical resources in the workplace in the context of current environmental and climate change related legislation. The aim of the module is develop the technical knowledge and skill sets of the learners to enable them to design and implement climate resilience measures in SMEs. There is particular emphasis on assessing carbon and environmental footprints of energy and materials supply chains . 

Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of industry energy and environmental standards such as ISO 14001:2015, Environmental Management Systems, ISO 5001:2018  Energy Management systems.

  2. Critically analyse fuel and energy supply data to determine carbon emissions and identify alternatives or mitigation measure.

  3. Demonstrate an understanding of the concepts and methodologies associated with materials life cycle analysis (as per ISO 14040:2006) 

  4. Critically compare a range of products in terms of their carbon and ecological footprints

  5. Critically evaluate procurement policies and practices 

  6. Prepare an organisational Sustainability Policy Statement that is fit for purpose.
