Geotechnical Engineering 302 (A)

Description

The aim of this module are to develop the apprentices ability to use applied mathematical solutions to solve geotechnical engineering problems. Upon completion of the module the apprentice will recognise structured methodologies used in the solution of geotechnical engineering problems and will be able to apply these to optimise the engineering characteristics of existing soils for use in engineering works.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Explain consolidation and settlement theories and evaluate the effect on various soil types

  2. Ascertain the stability of a slope using different analysis methods

  3. Assess contaminated and marginal land; contaminates and remediation.

  4. Demonstrate a command of a range of geotechnical and analytical skills by producing laboratory and project reports.
