Literature and Society

This module examines a range of drama, poetry and prose which cover the period from the 16^th century to the early 20^th century. Specific genres of literature are examined and the ways in which literature emerges from and responds to key social movements and changes.

1. identify different genres of literature from a variety of historical periods

2. appreciate the handling of literature conventions

3. recognise how literature can reflect contemporary society 

4. understand the importance of literature in fostering social reflection
