Modernism
Description
This module examines the growth of new ideas in the arts from the mid-nineteenth into the twentieth century. These ideas will be examined in their original European contexts; there will also be a focus on the spread of these new influences into Ireland.

Articulate the core principles and practices that transformed the arts in the later nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Apply art-historical terms to important examples of work in the visual arts.
Describe the arrival of new aesthetic influences in the work of Irish artists during the later nineteenth and twentieth centuries.
Analyse the local factors that affected the diffusion of new cultural ideas in twentieth-century Ireland.
