Careers Fair to highlight employment opportunities and trends
Over 50 companies and professional organisations are to take part in this year’s GMIT Careers Fair in the Dublin Road (Galway) campus on Tuesday next 9 October.
Students and graduates of GMIT will have opportunities to learn about the latest career trends and job opportunities as well as postgraduate study, placements, internships and volunteering options.
Some 1,000 students are expected to visit the various stands and workshops on the day which gets underway at 12 noon and runs until 3pm. There will be various presentations throughout the day on topics such as ‘Teacher Training in the UK’, Professional Accountancy Careers’, ‘Job Opportunities with INTEL’ and many more. Professional recruiters will be available to give advice to students and a number of CV clinics will run throughout the day.
Companies attending include Avaya International, Cisco Systems, Goodman Medical, Gradireland, ICE Group, Lidl Ireland, Ericsson, Lotus Engineering, Medtronic, RSM Farrell, SAP.Valeo, Procter & Gamble and many others. A number of providers of postgraduate study programmes from the various universities will have stands at the event along with representatives from professional volunteering organisations.
Bridie Killoran, Careers Officer, GMIT, says: “Everybody knows it’s not easy to get a job in today’s environment but this Careers Fair is a fantastic opportunity to find out where the growth areas are and generate ideas for what you can do once you graduate. Only 25% of the jobs are advertised and the challenge is to find out about a job when it is not advertised”.
