CUA virtual choir release “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”
The Connacht Ulster Alliance (CUA) virtual choir this week released a wonderful rendition of the 1951 hit “It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas” under the expert musical direction of choirmaster Sean Rowland. Penned by Meredith Wilson (1951) and recorded by Bing Crosbie, Johnny Mathis and more recently Michael Bublé, some 50 staff and students from GMIT, IT Sligo and LYIT, along with a few guests from THEA, took part in Zoom rehearsals before submitting individual video recordings for the production which you can watch and listen on https://youtu.be/WoxCb_2C2ss and or GMIT’s Facebook page at:https://fb.watch/9FZtXI4wlr/
Last year the GMIT Virtual Choir produced a beautiful rendition of “O Holy Night” for Christmas and in 2019 GMIT students and staff live choirs together with pupils from Scoil Ide, Galway city sang “Somewhere in my Memory” reaching number 1 in the Irish iTunes chart and raising funds for Galway Hospice. GMIT Virtual Choir has worked on several projects since COVID-19 struck and were recently invited to submit an entry (“Bohemian Rhapsody”) to the international virtual choir competition “Cantantes Lublinensis” in Poland. There was great excitement when the GMIT Virtual Choir was announced joint winner.
