Design students to hold exhibition in CCAM as part of Design Week
Exciting exhibition of furniture pieces and art work opens in CCAM, 10 November, 5pm
Students and graduates of GMIT design programmes are joining forces to hold an exciting exhibition of art work and furniture pieces in GMIT’s Centre for the Creative Arts and Media (CCAM), on Monday next, 10 November.
The exhibition entitled ‘Art Design Process Product’ consists of work from students and graduates of GMIT Letterfrack and the CCAM at GMIT’s campus at Wellpark Road in Galway city and is one of the central events of the first Galway Design Week.
The multidisciplinary exhibition will showcase work in the disciplines of textiles, ceramics, furniture design, fine art, multimedia and film.
Kevin Maye, one of the lecturing staff organising the event, says “The purpose of this exhibition is twofold; firstly it demonstrates how art can influence and inspire design and how a design process leads to finished product. Secondly, much of the work demonstrates how art can be inspired by product.”
“We’re delighted to be part of Design Week and look forward to feedback from the public. GMIT students will be on hand for the duration of the exhibition to answer any queries and will be only too happy to discuss their work.”
The exhibition will open on Monday 10 November at 5 pm. Viewing times are from Tuesday 11 November to Friday, 14 November, 2 pm to 6 pm, and Saturday 15 November, 12 pm to 4 pm.
This is the first year of Galway Design Week, featuring an exciting array of events taking place in different venues between 10 and 17 November, with the aim of promoting innovative design in Galway City and County.
