GMIT announces appointment of Marketing Officer
GMIT is pleased to announce the appointment of Karen Smyth as Marketing Officer for the Institute, with responsibility for promoting GMIT in Ireland and overseas, and managing all marketing activities.
Karen has worked in a number of industries over the last 18 years, including marketing roles in consumer goods (as Brand Manager with Slendertone), and tourism (as Marketing Manager for Galway East Tourism and Sales & Marketing Manager for Aran Direct).
For the last four and a half years Karen has managed the Links Office in the College of Tourism & Arts in GMIT (formerly The Hotel School). This involved working with tourism, hospitality and retail businesses in Ireland and overseas to secure and monitor up to 500 work placements for GMIT students every year.
“I am very excited about taking on the role of Marketing Officer for GMIT”, says Ms Smyth. “It combines my experience in both marketing and education, and comes at a time of great change in the education sector.”
“GMIT offers students a great student experience thanks to its campus locations, smaller class sizes, and practical and innovative approaches to learning, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to get this message out to students, parents, industry and members of the public as part of this new role”..
Karen is a resident of Athenry, Co Galway, and a graduate of NUI Galway, having completed the Bachelor of Commerce (1994), specialising in Marketing and French, and the Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing Practice (1995).
