GMIT present Heritage and Guiding award to Belmullet group
Outreach initiative involving Erris Tourism and Údaras na Gaeltachta
A group of people from Belmullet have been presented with FETAC Special Purpose Awards in "Regional and Local Guiding" from GMIT Castlebar. The one year course was delivered in Belmullet by GMIT staff in partnership with Erris Tourism and Údaras na Gaeltachta.
The course was designed for people who provide or wish to provide a range of regional and local guiding services to visitors and tourists. It provides the professional, technical, social and administrative skills needed to offer a quality guiding service.
The course was designed by Fáilte Ireland and the National Tourism Development Authority in consultation with tourism providers and specialists. It is partially funded by Fiontar Comhraic Teo and Údarás na Gaeltachta.
Dr Deirdre Garvey, Lifelong Learning Coordinator, GMIT Castlebar, says the tourism industry is of critical importance in the region. "We are delighted at the commitment of the students and the success of the collaborative nature of this excellent programme which will help develop the skills needed to grow the heritage tourism and activity-based tourism sectors."
"GMIT Castlebar has experience in delivering Heritage, Outdoor Education and Tourism programmes over the years and we are delighted to work again with Erris Tourism on this excellent programme.
