Dr Anita Talbot, a Research Fellow at the Marine and Freshwater Research Centre (MFRC) in GMIT’s Galway campus, has recently been awarded a two-year grant for the development of site-specific autogenous vaccines for the improved health and welfare of finfish species in Irish aquaculture.

Dr Talbot, with the help of two Research Assistants, and taking guidance from fish veterinarians, will produce vaccines for marine fish species including lumpfish, wrasse and Atlantic salmon, in addition to perch, a freshwater fish species.

The funding for this work comes from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF) Operational Programme (OP) 2014-2020 through the Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM) Knowledge Gateway Scheme.
