New annual prize announced for GMIT QA student

The Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (Western Region) and Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) are pleased to announce a new annual prize for a student with the highest CAO points on GMIT's Construction Economics and Quantity Surveying degree programme.

The annual prize consists of a new laptop with office quality software. The first award will be presented in September 2012. Mature entrants will also be eligible for the prize and will be assessed on other criteria including work experience.

Tomás Murphy, a Chartered Quantity Surveyor and lecturer on the programme says: "This is a wonderful initiative between GMIT and SCSI Western Region and provides something very practical for the winning student about to embark on his or her surveying studies/career".

Chairman of the SCSI Western Region, Paul Johnson, says: "This initiative will foster even stronger links between the SCSI, GMIT and its surveying students".

"The latest figures show a stabilisation in the sector and we expect to see a far more sustainable, stable and regulated industry with good opportunities for future graduates both domestically and internationally".
