RTÉ's Head of News & Current Affairs to deliver public lecture as part of RTÉ/GMIT partnership
Kevin Bakhurst - ‘Is there a future for public service broadcasting?’: GMIT 23 October, 2pm
Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) will host a public lecture by the Head of RTÉ’s News and Current Affairs, Mr Kevin Bakhust, on the topic “Is there a future for public service broadcasting?’, in GMIT (Galway) on Wednesday 23 October, 2pm (Theatre 1000).
The public lecture is part of the partnership between RTÉ and GMIT. The partnership will see RTÉ have an input into programme development and the strategic development of the new Centre for the Creative Arts and Media (formerly Cluain Mhuire campus).
This collaboration provides opportunities for GMIT Film and Documentary students; support and advice from RTÉ in relation to the development and review of media programmes; potential for RTÉ staff to act as adjunct staff and/or external examiners; the creations of an Ideas Laboratory in the Centre; and access to new technologies in RTÉ.
GMIT President Michael Carmody says: “This partnership is an important step as we develop the Centre for Creative Arts and Media as a focal point for media-related higher education in Galway.
The association with RTÉ and its expertise in modern media technologies adds a new dimension to our BA (Hons) in Film & Documentary degree programme, along with providing experience and opportunities for our students and graduates".
Kevin Bakhurst, Managing Director of RTÉ News and Current Affairs said: RTÉ is delighted that through this partnership with GMIT we can cement our presence in Galway; learn from the cutting edge work at the Institute; and provide some support and experience to students there.”
