Secondary schools Ardscoil Mhuire, Ballinasloe, and Presentation College, Headford, through to the Irish final of the VEX VRC Robotics competition
Following four months designing, building, coding and trouble-shooting their robots using a kit sponsored by Boston Scientific, nine teams from Galway and Mayo secondary schools met on the ATU Galway City campus on Thursday 19 January to battle for a place in the national final of the secondary school VEX VRC Robotic competition due to take place in Cork in February.
Second level schools taking part were Mount St Michael’s, Claremorris, Ardscoil Mhuire, Ballinasloe, Scoil Phobail Mhic Dara, Carna, Presentation College, Headford, Calasanctius College, Portumna Community School, Presentation College, Tuam and Holy Rosary College, Mountbellew.
At the end of a very tight match, the alliance of Presentation College, Headford and Ardscoil Mhuire, Ballinasloe won against the winners of the eight rounds of qualifiers, Scoil Phobail Mhic Dara, Carna and Holy Rosary, Mountbellew. The Judges Award went to Calasanctius College, Oranmore, for their excellent teamwork and quality of their coding.
