13 graduating students to exhibit at London's "New Designers"(27 – 30 June)
A group of Art & Design students from GMIT have been invited to exhibit their work at one of Europe's most prestigious shows, "New Designers", London, from 27 to 30 June, 2012.
Thirteen Textiles students from the GMIT Cluain Mhuire campus will travel to Islington, London to present a selection of concepts and design collections, featuring printed, woven, embroidered and mixed-media textiles. The students are all in the final year of the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Design in Textiles and will graduate later this year.
"New Designers" has been introducing exceptional graduate design talent for 25 years, and has launched the careers of literally thousands of remarkable designers who have gone on to influence every area and every sector within the design and creative industries. GMIT textiles students last exhibited in the show in 2009 and 2010.
Peter Conroy, lecturer in Textiles, GMIT, says it's a fantastic opportunity for GMIT textiles graduates to showcase their skills and talent on an international platform: "We are delighted to once again take part in this excellent event. The cream of the crop of this year's design graduates will be unveiling their remarkable talent, showing the very latest ideas and emerging trends across a host of design disciplines."
"Our graduates can expect to have a number of career options on leaving college such as in-house or freelance designers for industry, designer makers, sectoral consultants, gallery artists, and many other creative roles in a regional, national and international domain."
Gerardine Quinn, Head of the GMIT Cluain Mhuire campus, says: "Being part of Europe's leading graduate design show will ensure maximum exposure for the work of our graduating students. This annual event attracts up to 20,000 people, and has a marketing reach of over 8.8 million through international press, trade magazines, online and broadcast media."
