Nursing Research and Informatics

This module will provide students with an introductory knowledge and understanding of the nature, purposes, methods and techniques of research in health care, including an outline understanding of the research process. It will also provide students with an overview of current and relevant principles of health information technology and nursing informatics as applied in nursing practice.

1. Describe the function of research in the practice of nursing.

2. Demonstrate an ability to use IT systems in searching for academic literature.

3. Identify the components of the research process.

4. Explain the principles of health information technology.

5. Demonstrate understanding of the application of informatics in the delivery of nursing practice.
