Workplace Issues: HR and IR in Context

Description

This module is designed to give students an increased understanding of HR/IR issues in modern workplaces.  It is a suitable module for business graduates seeking to take up management roles or thinking of becoming an employer themselves.  The module will build on HRM knowledge developed in earlier modules, examine new topics that are relevant to modern workplaces, and examine current thinking from the field.  It should also be useful to generate ideas for the student's Year 4 Project. 

Learning Outcomes

  1. Research some main HR and IR issues in the workplace.

  2. Explain the relationships between HRM/IR issues and the broader business economic, social and political environment in which it operates.

  3. Propose appropriate managerial responses to deal with a variety of workplace issues that can arise 

  4. Work effectively with others to examine workplace issues
