Bachelor of Business

Caitriona Power - Business Graduate

A Mayo native, this Louisburgh lady is currently finishing the MSc in Marketing Practice at NUI Galway and is presently on work placement with the Irish Ambulance Training Institute. 

Having heard many of students in years ahead of her had gone to 3rd level education at GMIT, and hearing all about the hands on and practical approach to learning, Caitriona enrolled in the Bachelor of Business in 2010 and went on to complete the Bachelor of Business (hons) specializing in Marketing in 2013.  

"Accounting was the biggest challenge for me. I guess, because I am creative, I just don’t have a great head for figures, but tutorials were a great help and we could go to as many as we wanted in a week. On the other hand I really enjoyed the Market Practice module in 4th year. We took everything we learned and put it into practice. We undertook market research for a well-known Galway company that was expanding into the UK market and we went on a field trip to discover how major Irish tourist attractions promote their businesses." 

Caitriona kept busy by working as a student brand manager for Red Bull during her 3rd and 4th years of college, which allowed her to stay involved in plenty of fun extra curricular activities. She helped out with several events ran by many of the societies such as the Trampolining society, the LGBT society and the DJ society to name a few.  

"I'd recommend everyone get involved in the GMIT student's union. It is a great way to have fun and make friends. Like many of the GMIT students, I lived in Glasan for three of my four years on campus. I would also highly recommend this as it is secure, directly across the road from the college and you are with people your own age". 

Closing in on finishing her Masters, Caitriona is eager to gain full time employment with a multi-national firm working in brand management or digital marketing. Caitriona feels that GMIT students have the upper hand when it comes to entering the work force because of the amount of practical experience they have before they leave college.
